Stories are Much More Fascinating When They’re Actually True
American Eagle Stories are much more fascinating when they’re actually true. A case in point: A Trip to the Beach by Melinda and Robert Blanchard. This Vermont couple decided to get away from it all by selling their specialty-food company, Blanchard & Blanchard, and establishing Blanchards Restaurant on the far away – and far warmer – Caribbean island of Anguilla. However, in trying to get away from it all, they didn’t realize what they were getting themselves into. Island time is one such cultural crossroads. With island time, a few days can turn into weeks, even when assured by the customs broker that all the restaurant supplies will arrive in no time. Eventually they surmount the obstacles of starting a new business and adapting to a different culture – only to see their restaurant destroyed by Hurricane Luis. Should they give up on island life and the life they’ve created or take what they’ve learned and rebuild their lives elsewhere? This is a must-read for anyone who has ever pondered escaping to the Caribbean for good. |
