Episode 1: Follow Your Passion

Kathleen King started selling cookies at her family’s Long Island farm stand when she was 11 years old. Now Tate’s Bakeshop is a national brand selling millions of cookies across the country. Bob and Russ Shay, brothers and avid skiers, grew their custom ski boot business from their parents’ garage to become one of the biggest suppliers in the industry. Ross Gannon and Nat Benjamin followed their dream of designing and building traditional wooden sailboats on Martha’s Vineyard.

Episode 2: Trust Your Instincts

Don Chalfont and Jim Satloff were friends who shared a love for freestyle skiing. Frustrated with the limited choices of twin-tip skis on the market, they started the now successful Liberty Skis in Vail, CO. Chocolate lover Patty Denny had been an actress, assistant pastry chef and ski school manager. In 2002, she quit her day job and turned her hobby of making truffles into a thriving business, Telluride Truffle. With no money and little experience, brothers Shep & Ian Murray decided to pursue the American Dream by designing some whimsical handmade ties. They started peddling their Vineyard Vines line on Martha’s Vineyard, and their company now does over $40 million in annual sales.

Episode 3: Listen to Your Heart

Dedicated to roasting his beans to very strict quality standards, Keith “Herbie” Herbert started selling coffee part-time from a little cart. His company, Ink! Coffee now has 7 stores and over 100 wholesale accounts. When Eberhard Müller was the chef at New York’s famed Lutece restaurant, he and his wife Paulette Satur purchased some land on Long Island to grow vegetables and herbs for the restaurant. Today, Satur Farms grows organic produce for many top restaurants in New York. Jamie Bennett came up with a new kind of book light when he was a teenager. Years later, he and his wife Debbie started the successful company LightWedge, and their lights can be found in specialty stores around the country.
